Center for Risk Management of Engineering Systems University of Virginia 2 Invite from Wayne Ferguson on the November 9 th Meeting From: "Ferguson, Wayne S." Wayne.Ferguson@VDOT.Virginia.govWayne.Ferguson@VDOT.Virginia.gov To: "Fiol, Marsha C.", Rasnick, H. Charles", "Rao, Murali" Cc: "Allen, Gary R.", "Jim Lambert (E-mail)", "DeBruhl, Jennifer", "Myers, Kenneth" Subject: Business Process Modeling for VDOT-- A Demonstration with the Integrated SYIP/STIP Date: Thu, 21 Oct 2004 08:44:24 -0400 You are invited to attend a presentation and discussion on the research project "Business Process Modeling for VDOT-- A Demonstration with the Integrated SYIP/STIP" on Tuesday, November 9, 2004, from 10am to 2pm at Room 111, Olsson Hall of the School of Engineering and Applied Science of the University of Virginia. Lunch will be served. We consider this meeting to be extremely important in terms of delivery of a high quality, useful, product to VDOT so it will be greatly appreciated if you can attend or send a knowledgeable, authoritative representative. Overview: Since January 2004, the Center for Risk Management of Engineering Systems of the University of Virginia has been testing business process modeling to describe the SYIP/STIP integration effort. Following a recommendation of VDOT's IT Division, the Center adopted the IDEF modeling capability of BPWin (also known as All Fusion Process Modeler). The modeling encourages consistent documentation of who generates what information/products/services, for whom, how, and for what reasons. In organizations such as VDOT, the modeling is useful in making priorities for processes to change and maintain. The November 9 presentation and discussion will consist of a review of the progress to date on SYIP/STIP, hands-on introduction to the BPWin software, and identification of relevant needs and opportunities. Various products of the effort are available at www.virginia.edu/crmes/stip. For further information contact Prof. Jim Lambert (434) 982-2072 or 924-0960 lambert@virginia.edu or Wayne Ferguson, Marsha Fiol, Charlie Rasnick, or Murali Rao.
