2. venture noun. a business project or activity, especially one that involves taking risks; e.g. The project is a joint venture between the public and private sectors. verb. to do sth, even though it involves risks; venture into/on sth.

(of printed words or letters) in a thick dark type. e.g. bold lettering; be/make so bold (as to do sth) when politely asking a question or making a suggestion which you hope will offend someone; e.g. I may be so bold as to suggest that he made a mistake.

10. sullen adj. silently showing lack of cheerfulness; adv. Sullenly; noun. Sullenness.

11. inquisitive adv. Inquisitively; noun. Inquisitiveness; verb. always wanting to find out the details about things and people.

12. affect verb. to do sth that produces an effect or change in someone or sth. verb. to make some one feel strong emotions (moved) verb. to pretend to have a particular feeling way of speaking e.g. Affect is the usual verb and effect is usual noun. e.g. How do you think the changes will affect you? (not affect on/to/in you) e.g. What effect do you think the change will have on you? The verb effect is fairly formal and is only used in particular meanings, for example, you might effect changes or a plan of action (=make them happen) It does not mean the same as affect noun. affection: a gentle feeling of love and caring.

13. withdraw verb. cause (not) to take part in; verb. to take money out of a bank account; withdraw sth from sale/the market; withdraw a remark / accusation; e.g. The newspaper has agreed to withdraw its allegation. withdraw sb from; verb. to no longer take part in an activity, race, or to prevent someone from doing this; withdraw into: stop communicating to be quieter, less friendly e.g. The little girl seemed to withdraw into a private world

14. tardy adv. slow in action; adj. done later than it should have been done; e.g. We apologize for our tardy response to your letter. (This sentence is often used in e-mails.) noun. tardiness.
