Directions You will spend some time researching a weekly topic during each quarter. You will then create a portfolio to be submitted online using four different thinking maps. You may choose from the following six maps for your presentation. You may upload your project as a PowerPoint presentation. You will complete four thinking maps per week for a total of 32 maps at the end of the quarter.

Double Bubble Map: Use this map to compare and contrast your weekly topic with another weekly topic. Longitude Run vertically around the Earth The Prime Meridian measures 0˚ Called meridians The Prime Meridian runs through Greenwich, England Measures 180˚ east or west These lines are invisible Tree Map: Create a family tree for your weekly topic showing their parents, siblings, husband or wife and any children they may have OR create a list of details associated with your weekly topic

The Earth’s magnetic fields are strongest closer to the equator.
Flow Map: Find and read an article your weekly topic. Sequence six major plot events for the article. Loggerhead sea turtles pick up the magnetic field of the lines of longitude which helps them find their way either east or west Loggerhead sea turtles rely on the angle of the lines of longitude and the strength of the magnetic field Loggerhead sea turtles must make their way from the beach into the ocean to begin migrating from Florida to the ocean and back The Earth’s magnetic fields are strongest closer to the equator. Researchers used baby loggerhead sea turtles to replicate the migration patterns This research can be used to better protect the environments of sea animals as well as improve navigation

The US has four time zones Lines of longitude designate time zones
A time zone is measured for every 15˚ along each meridian Lines of longitude designate time zones Lines of longitude also effect daylight savings time Multi Flow Map: put an event in the center box from the article from above. Then, list things that may have caused the event on the left side, and effects of the event on the right side. The number of causes does not have to be equal to the number of effects.
