Prior Knowledge –What HTML tags were used to create a table? –Why are tables an important web development tool? –Predict: Where do you believe you may find the insert table command? Do you think that may be several ways to insert a table?

The Use of Tables Tabular data on the WWW You can display cell borders as is shown here Or you can have invisible borders Borders are invisible by default CoursesCredit CoursesCredit Electronic portfolios in college will require the use of tables to arrange data in an attractive manner.

Tables: Basic Elements 1.Rows horizontal spacing (left to right) 2.Columns vertical spacing (top to bottom) 3.Cells the box formed by intersection of column and row 4.Borders The line that surrounds the outside of the table. This can be set to any size or none at all, but 1-3 pixels is standard. Border colors can also be set 5.Background color Background colors can be set for the whole table or for individual cells.

Table Modes We will use the “standard” or “basic” mode Basic is for beginners Located by visiting VIEW | TABLE MODE and then check off “standard”

A word about table widths/alignments… Table widths can be set as a pixel value or a percentage value. 700 pixels vs. 100 percent (%) Pixel values are good when you want to have a very consistent look on the page and not have things move around. Percent values are good when you want to fill the page. Column widths alignments will be set in the properties inspector during our practice assignment.
