In 1970, Marcian Hoff, and engineer, invented the microprocessor, an entire CPU on a single chip. The replacement of several larger components by one microprocessor made possible the fourth generation of computers.
3
They had … Input Devices Memory CPU (Central Processing Unit) Output Devices
4
Computers have two types of memory contained on chips..ROM and RAM!!
5
ROM- Read only memory, enables the computer to complete simple jobs such as placing a character on the screen or checking he keyboard to see if any keys have been pressed.
6
RAM- Random Access Memory, is a temporary memory where data and instructions can be stored.
7
The first computer was invented in 1936 by a man named Konrad Zuse. The computer was called a Z1 Computer.
8
It came from Grace Murray Hopper’s report of finding an actual bug-a moth-inside a computer.!
9
The internet began in 1969. The internet started as something called ARPA Net, and it was created by the US military as a world wide communications network.
10
The Babbage Analytical Engine is a massive brass, steam-powered, general purpose mechanical computer.
11
Hollerith’s method was used in 1890 census. He invented it because like if you had a railway ticket, he wanted to have the age, state of residence, gender, and other other information on the card.
12
The army needed a computer for calculating artillery- firing tables, the setting used for different weapons under varied conditions for target accuracy. It was built in the University of Pennsylvania.
13
A program is an organized list of instructions that, when executed, causes the computer to behave in a predetermined manner. Without programs, computers are useless.
14
By replacing bulky and unreliable vacuum tubes with transistors, computers could now perform the same functions, using less power and space.!
15
In 1975, Ed Roberts invented the Microcomputer. A microcomputer is a computer with a microprocessor as its central processing unit.
16
A binary system is a representation system, used in computers, with only two digits, 0 and 1.
