Strange winter This year`s winter is very strange. First winter was too warm. Then followed a week of severe cold. Again the sun and high temperatures. In the meantime some rain, mist and gray sky. Finally snow, which was nice only a day or two- until it turned into icy horror.

The worst devastation in living memory Snow and ice has paralyzed Slovenia, bringing down trees and electricity pylons, cutting power from our homes and causing millions of euros of damage.

We have no elektricity, no internet connections.

The schools have been closed.

Our winter activities

6th December St. Nicholas The holiday season begins with the feast of St. Nicholas on December 6th. He comes down from heaven. With him come the angels and the devils. He brings toys, fruit, sweets… or stick.

Advent time Advent is the time of four weeks before Christmas. We made beautiful wreaths. It is also the time when we think about our past and what we can do better in the future.

Christmas be better ! We made ornaments and Christmas cards. Then we organized an exhibition with sale. With this money we will help poorer children.

Carol singers We went from house to house around the village, sang songs and brought happiness and blessings to the people.

Visit in a nursing home It’s nice to be together

Traditional Slovene cake We made traditional Slovene rollcake - POTICA Its ingredients are: DOUGH: yeast, sugar, milk, butter, egg yolks, salt, flour, vanilla extract, nutmeg WALNUT FILLING : milk, sugar, honey, vanilla, egg whites, cinamonn, grated lemon peel, finely ground walnuts, a little rum

The Independence and Unity Day The day after Christmas, the Independence and Unity Day, is celebrated in Slovenia since 1991 to commemorate the referendum of December 1990, in which over 95% of voters chose an independent Slovenia.

Prešeren’s day - February 8th The Slovenian Cultural Holiday (Prešeren Day) is a national holiday marking the anniversary of the death of the poet France Prešeren on 8 February, 1849. France Prešeren, the greatest Slovenian poet, the author of Slovenian national anthem.
