5 For to which of the angels did God ever say, “You are my Son; today I have become your Father”? Or again, “I will be his Father, and he will be my Son”? Hebrews 1:5-9
2
6 And again, when God brings his firstborn into the world, he says, “Let all God’s angels worship him.” 7 In speaking of the angels he says, “He makes his angels winds, his servants flames of fire.”
3
8 But about the Son he says, “Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever, and righteousness will be the scepter of your kingdom.
4
9 You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness; therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions by anointing you with the oil of joy.”
5
Angels are pretty awesome beings Even people who do not believe in God believe in angels Majestic Supreme Limitless Spiritual
7
Hebrews says… Angels are incredible Multiple wings, eyes, heads They fly, float, speak with authority Jesus is greater than angels
8
Hebrews 1:14 Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?
9
Why is Jesus is greater than angels? Jesus is the Son… He is the representation of God the Father Jesus is the purifier
10
Hebrews 1 3 The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.
11
Jesus is God He was made a little lower than the angels (became human) So that through suffering, grace, merci and faithfulness He would make atonement and purify us Remove the power of death
12
Hebrews 2 9 But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, now crowned with glory and honor because he suffered death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone.
13
14 Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might destroy him who holds the power of death— that is, the devil… 18 Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.
14
In essence Jesus gave up everything Crawled in the mud with us and for us So that we could be lifted up and be called sons and daughters of God So that we would have life everlasting in highest place
17
Why does it matter that Jesus is greater than angels? We think we are so important! Yet even compared to angels we seem small 1. The universe 2. The brain 3. The oceans
22
Jesus is greater than all these things!
23
Putting it all together We too should be merciful From where we are we should lift someone up Physically, emotionally, financially or spiritually
24
Putting it all together We need to open our eyes and realize we do not belong here This is God’s creation We can enjoy it this place We belong in a much better place with God the Father and God the Son and God the spirit
25
Jesus gave up everything To do for us what we could not do for ourselves To lift us up from the muck and mire and bring us into God’s kingdom
