Module 1: The History and the Future of the Web LESSON 3 Developing Effective Web Use Skills Familiarize yourself with search tools Boolean operators narrow or broaden a search AND (+) - an inclusive operator. Both terms must be found in order for the document to be identified. OR - an exclusive operator. Either/or of the terms listed can be found in order for the document to be identified. NOT - an exclusive operator. The word after NOT (-) is excluded from the sites identified. NEAR - a proximity operator. A proximity operator determines the closeness of terms within the text of an identified document. NEAR is a restrictive AND.
