3. UFES Overview UFES is the main higher education institution in the state of Espirito Santo. It was founded in 1954, in Vitória. UFES offers 91 undergraduate courses and 50 Post- Graduate Programmes, with nearly 20.000 students.

30. Research Overview Most research activities are carried out by research groups integrating Post-Graduate Programmes. Yet, some research activities are also carried out outside these groups. UFES has a large Scientific Initiation Programme for under-graduated students, with approximately 1200 students enrolled annually.
