3 Institution offers teacher education programs for K-8 Elementary Teachers and/or 5-12 Secondary Math or Science Teachers. All teacher education programs have been approved by the Montana Board of Public Education for teacher licensure in Montana. All selected institutions are accredited by the Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges.

4 Data Collection and Analysis Overview 1.K-8 and 5-12 math and science teaching vacancies. 2.K-8 and 5-12 math and science educator licenses and endorsements issued annually by the Office of Public Instruction (2006 – 2008). 3.Status of Ongoing Data Collection Process: -Identification of current teachers teaching outside their endorsement areas  In progress -Annual Vacancies  In progress

5  Seven out of nine campuses selected for data collection refer students to the OPI website advertising teaching vacancies in the State of Montana.  Data for teaching vacancies posted on the OPI website, until recently, were not stored beyond 90 days.  Historical data available through the Critical Quality Educator Shortages report.

8 Recommendations for Future Data Collection Efforts  All State Universities and Private Institutions should consider posting education job vacancies on the OPI website.  Continually review and track job postings on OPI website to determine the number of K-8 and 5-12 math and/or science teaching vacancies throughout FY09.

9 2. Teaching Licenses and Endorsements Issued Annually by OPI (2006-2008) All teachers are issued either a Class 1 Professional license or Class 2 Standard License with one or more endorsements. This initiative only reviewed data for the following endorsement areas: K-8 Biology Broadfield (Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science, Physics) Chemistry Earth Science Physics Mathematics
