7. The timetable is provided as a guide for you and for your subject teachers about how often, and when, you should expect homework. There will be some weeks when it is not appropriate to set homework on the ‘due day’ and some when it may be necessary to set homework on another day. You should expect a weekly piece of homework in Year 9 to take you around half an hour and a GCSE piece in Year 10 or Year 11 to take about an hour on average, though there will be many occasions when it takes more or less time to complete to the required standard. Sometimes a longer piece of homework will be set which goes over two or more weeks.

8. The purpose of homework is always to help your learning and to consolidate and enhance your knowledge, skills and understanding. If you do not receive homework in a given subject in any particular week, you should see that as an extra opportunity to use resources, including your schoolwork and any revision guides you may have as well as material available online, to check that you fully understand the work you have covered during lesson time. This will be far more time-effective and successful in the long run than leaving all of your revision to the period just before the exams.
