1 Woodstock High School AP / Honors Program January 8, 2013 8:10 p.m. Woodstock High School Auditorium

2 WHS AP / Honors Program What is an Honors Class? Page 5 Offered mostly at underclass level What is an Advanced Placement (AP) class? National curriculum administrated and governed by the College Board (SAT) Becoming the “gold standard” for a rigorous high school experience

3 WHS AP / Honors Program Are AP/Honors classes important? A rigorous high school curriculum is primary predictor of college success. The courses taken are a higher indicator of success than are gender, race, socio-economic status, or any other factor. Local angle from our graduates

4 WHS AP / Honors Program Measure us by our accomplishments—not our intentions. The number of Blue Streaks taking at least one has tripled from 2005 to 2012. 43% of seniors took at least one AP course. The 957 students at WHS last year earned 126 more total AP points than 1963 students did in 2005-06. 150 students took at least one AP test in 2012 and earned a school-wide 3.18 average (1-5 scale). Economically-disadvantaged and minority student participation has risen dramatically. 1.19 Newsweek Power Factor (255 tests/215 seniors). 186 students earned a 3 or higher on their AP test. If honored, that would equal $255,750 in savings for families when calculated at $1,375 for 3 credit hours at NIU.
