College Entrance Exams SAT Subject Tests UC’s no longer require Subject Exams, but is still strongly recommended for impacted majors. Taken after completing accelerated courses in math, science, foreign language, world history, and literature Some private university programs require specific SAT Subject Tests to be considered for admission. HONORS and ADVANCED PLACEMENT COURSES What Honors courses are offered for Freshmen? – Geography H, Geometry H, Algebra 2 H, English 1 H, Biology H Why take an honors or AP course? – Students receive an extra grade point (i.e. B grade is weighted as an A) – Students can receive college credit for taking the AP exam and passing with a score of 3 or higher – Students are academically challenged to meet their abilities for advanced learning

CRITERIA FOR HONORS PLACEMENT Teacher approval is required Students need to complete an annual Honors Contract From signed by student and parent Students need to score advanced or proficient on their California Subject Test Completion of a summer assignment for certain honors courses – Summer assignments will be posted on THS website by grade level in May – Download an honors packet from the counseling website for more information

“I’m Concerned About My Student’s Grades…What do I do?” Access Aeries Parent Portal to view your student’s grades Students should discuss grades with teacher on a one-on-one basis Contact your student’s teachers via email or phone extension for a parent conference Contact your student’s counselor or make an appointment for further assistance
