Egyptians always had a purpose to what they did, like stories of wars or religious purposes. There were 3 types of sculpting back in Ancient times. One: They would chisel out the background so the pictures would look raised. Two: The pictures were chiseled out so they looked like they were sunken. Three: The most magnificent were the 3D sculptures. They were made in many shapes and sizes Some materials Egyptians used for building sculptures were: Limestone, alabaster, sandstone, copper, and granite. Depending on the material they were using to build their sculptures they had many different tools, but most were just stone that was harder than the stone they were actually cutting. 14 VIRTUAL MUSEUM OF NATIVE AMERICAN WOMEN DAILY LIFE FAMOUS WOMEN MATRILINEAL TRIBES CREATION MYTHS CURATOR INFORMATION Name of Museum Egyptians were organized and even Egyptian painting had strict rules. Before paintings were actually painted on walls or tablets it was well thought out. Sketched on a piece of papyrus paper, bye a master craftsman, they would add a grid-system of vertical and horizontal lines onto the papyrus. After the grid was finished on the paper the grid was sketched out on the wall as well so the Egyptians could just scale the small sketch to the actual size Brushes Egyptians used were mainly made out of reeds: the brushes had chewed up ends to make a soft side to dip in the paint. Another type of brush was bunched up plant fibers tied together Egyptians mixed paints with certain materials like: Charcoal and soot to make black, iron oxide to make yellow, and calcium compounds to make white.
