Interesting Facts About the Savanna
Did you know the savanna biome has the largest biodiversity plant eating mammals on the planet? This biome is the largest in southern Africa that occupies 46% of the area and over one third of southern Africa. Here is an interesting fact I bet you’ve never heard before. In South America grasslands are called ,“pampas”, in Europe, “steppes”, and in Africa they’re called “Savannas”. My last fact is that a quarter of the land on the Earth are grassland.

Climate of the Savanna In the summer it rains 10 to 30 inches. In the winter, unlike the summer, it is dry. Although it still rains 4 inches. The temperature range of the savanna is 60 degrees farenheight to 78 degrees farenheight. The savanna climate doesn't change a lot. But if it does, it changes slowly. In the summer season it’s nice and wet so, the plants are green, lush and the river’s flow. But when the savanna is dry it could be a long drought. The river’s get very dry and the plants have storage organs like bulbs, to store water.

This is an African giraffe he is one of the tallest animals in the world. Giraffes are vegetarians because they only eat plants.
5
Plants The plants in the savanna have to be able to go for a long period of time without water, because of it’s droughts. The reason they can survive the drought is because they have long tap roots that can reach the water table.

Plants >The trees need to have tough trunks that can hold water.
>The plants in the savanna have tricks so they don’t get eaten. Some grasses are sharp, some are bitter tasting, but others are not . The other benefits of each vegetarian animal is that the plants give them something to eat. >In the Savanna lots of plants grow from bottom up. So they don’t get eaten or damaged. > In the savanna plants and animals depend on each other to keep the environment balanced. A wide range of animals graze the plants which provide a wide range of food for the carnivores such as lions and leopards.

Savanna animals Animals that live on the savanna usually have long legs and wings, which help them make it through long migrations. Most burrow under ground to escape the heat while raising their young. It’s a perfect place for animals who eat prey like buzzards and hawks. The sky is clear so they can see their prey. Animals don’t sweat. So they lose heat where they don’t have feathers, like on their ears or legs. For example, an elephant or a bird.

Conclusion The savanna is a very important environment for many animals and plants. The climate is perfect for everything that lives there. If you go there it’s warm and it’s like a beach without water. WATCH OUT!!! There are some animals that will fly right over your head, and some are big enough to eat you. If you try to find shade trees, there are very few. So the best clothing for out there is a tank top, sandals, and shoes. If I went there I would bring sunscreen.
