2 Agenda Introductions – Mr Ian Bartle (Headteacher) Our team who support you and your child Parent Governor - Mrs Sonam Chhoki FTS (Friends of Thornford School) – Mrs Paula Goddard School Meals Club – Mrs Rachel Saddington Breakfast Club – Mrs Zoe Dycer PSA (Parental Support Advisor) – Mrs Jackie Scott Extended Service – Mrs Andrea Cunningham Tour of the school – led by Thornford School Senior Leadership Team (Mr Bartle, Mrs Rees & Mrs Wilkes) – in three groups Presentation – ‘Your child starting school’ – by Mrs Sue Rees & Mrs Tina Wilkes (Senior Teachers + Reception Staff) Class Activities – a chance to view a sample of activities that everyone could perform at home to help your children before school Final question and answer session - in the hall (approx finish 7.30)

4 There will be a few occasional days towards the end of the Autumn terms when your child will be invited to stay all day e.g. Christmas Parties etc. Monday 6 th September to Friday 1 st October9am – 12pm Monday 4 th October – Friday 17 th December9am – 1pm Tuesday 4 th January 20109am – 3.30pm

14 Learning Encouraging a Questioning Mind and a Sense of Fun!!! Speaking – Listening – Reading – Writing Sharing Books and Rhymes Rhyming Skills Pencil control and hand coordination – drawing, cutting, write name (Capital letter to start with!)* Number Counting Recognising Numbers One to one correspondence Sorting Naming shapes

15 Reading Library books to share and enjoy. Storytelling Books Sound (Phonics) Books Reading Scheme (We will revisit this at the information afternoon in September)

16 Routines Start of Day! Bring your child around the school to the Reception Play Area. At 8.55 you will be greeted by the classteacher or classroom assistant Your child will enter through the conservatory door and should hang up their coat etc on the hook with their name They should put their book bag in their named tray and their red communication book in the appropriate box End of Day! Collect your child from the conservatory door Your child should always say ‘goodbye’ to the adult once they have been collected

17 What your child will need School Uniform (see prospectus for further information) Book Bag PE Kit This should be in school at all times in a named bag.. All items of clothing should be clearly named Hair should be tied back if long No jewellery – including stud earrings Please check your child’s daps fit on a half-termly basis and names have not washed out of clothing.

19 The First Two Weeks Establishing routines Developing Independence Home Learning Your child will come home with a library book for you to enjoy and share together. Enjoying all areas of Learning Settling in – having fun!
