CSU Early Start Program 50% of freshmen need remediation in math and English Can be exempt by showing proficiency on EAP taken in Junior year STAR Also will look at SAT/ACT/ELM/EPT and classes taken in senior year Must tell them by May 1 how you are addressing remediation-summer programs at CC/CSU, online classes 8/29/2015

Testing CSU requires either the SAT or ACT. May/June is a good time to take the SAT. ACT will be in June. Seniors- must finish all testing by Nov/Dec. UC requires the SAT or ACT with Writing You can’t change your GPA, but you can change your test scores! Test-prep classes

8/29/2015 Western Undergrad Exchange Students who are residents of WICHE states may enroll at participating two- and four-year college programs outside of their home state at a reduced tuition rate. 8/29/2015 CA Community College All students should take a-g requirements, especially MATH if they wish to be in a Transfer Program DUSD Concurrent Enrollment Program for 10-12 graders-earn HS and College credit LPC Early Admissions Program- February Average cost $1000/year No SAT or ACT testing required Certificates and AA/AS Degrees Transfer Agreements (TAGs)

8/29/2015 Trade/Technical Schools Specialty schools such as Cal Arts, Heald, Wyotech, California Culinary Academy, Dublin Beauty College. All have different entrance requirements- check with admissions. All have financial aid available as well.

8/29/2015 College Considerations: How far away from home? Do they have what I’d like to study? If I change my mind, do they have lots of things to study that interest me? What is the housing situation? Financial Aid packages? Do I want to live in a big town, rural area or suburban school?

8/29/2015 How many colleges should I apply to? It’s a good idea to apply to at least six. For some schools, there are no guarantees. Shoot for your dream school, but have a list of several schools that you feel reasonably sure will accept you. Make sure you have a “backup” school. Counselors can give you an idea of what last year’s acceptance data is like.

8/29/2015 Seniors- Lunchtime College Application Workshops October 11- CSU Application October 18- UC Application October 25- Private Colleges/Common App. November 1- Scholarships Drop-in help throughout November -Tuesdays during lunch in Library Computer Lab Deadline for CSU/UC Application is November 30! Private and out of state schools-check each campus. Community College Early Decision is March 31.
