Get Fit Kauai Worksite Wellness Challenge 2014

Mission Get Fit Kauai’s mission is to improve the quality of life of the residents and visitors of Kauai County to promote opportunities for physical activity and access to healthy foods. The coalition has formed four taskforces to address their mission: (1) Access to Healthy Foods, (2) The Built Environment, (3) Safe Routes to Schools, and (4) Worksite Wellness.

What is Worksite Wellness? An organized, employer-sponsored program designed to support the employees as they adopt and sustain behaviors that reduce health risks, enhance personal effectiveness, and benefit the organizations bottom line.

Poor Lifestyle Choices lead to Chronic Disease Cancer = 71%Stroke = 70% Heart Disease – 82% Diabetes = 91 % Percent of common disease that are preventable

Start where you are: Get leadership support Assess your company health culture and current policies Begin your journey with small steps Regular health communications Offer healthier foods/beverages at meetings Work with your benefits consultant or health plan to establish a strategy that fits your organizational culture and resources
