What is the Plan of Study? 1.An opportunity for students to set a main goal for the future. 2.A way for students to break down their goals year by year, class by class. 3.A chance to have a better understanding of which courses will be offered each year and which ones should be taken to reach goals. Sometimes course offerings differ depending on the year 4.A clearer picture of what is needed beyond high school This allows students to get started early on.

3. Why plan ahead? If you have a roadmap of where you want to go, you will have a better chance of reaching your destination...

4. First Step: What Interests You? Choose the direction do you want to head in: Find a career pathway that fits with your interest inventory. Remember: Making a career choice now doesn’t mean you won’t be able to change your mind later. Keep in Mind: Students who have a purpose tend to stay focused and have better grades. Narrow down your choices: This allows you to tailor your schedule to include things that interest you, which can make classes more enjoyable for you! If you don’t know, use the process of elimination to gain focus – choose a wide variety of electives to explore your interests.

5. Next Step: Choose Core Classes Language Arts: 4 credits needed – in other words, 4 year’s worth of Language Arts English 9 and English 10 (both semesters) are required Social Studies: 3 credits needs – which means 3 years worth of Social Studies classes U.S. History of Modern American, U.S. History of a Nation, and U.S. Government are required

6. Core Classes Continued… Math 3 credits of “Math” classes are required to graduate 4 credits are recommended for the Higher Education Admission Requirements (HEAR) for college Science 3 Science credits are required to graduate Some science classes, such as Physics, are “math-based” Although Earth Science is generally assigned to all students, this is not a lab-based science, which may be worth researching depending on your college choice

7. What are my choices? Remember: You will need.50 credits of Health and 1.0 of PE classes. Classes have prerequisites: Students must take Catering before they can take Prostart Advanced Weights can only be taken AFTER regular Weights Marketing and Your Future is for 10 th and up.

Choices: Continued… Things to consider: At least two years of the same Foreign Language is recommended Any Academy of Engineering and Yearbook courses require an application Students must take Drawing before they can take Painting Spanish Heritage requires a written assessment JROTC requires an application Any AP courses or JROTC will require special permission to drop or change – often these also require a parent meeting
