Let’s Review Better Buy: Coach Smith went to the store to buy tennis balls. The following packages of tennis balls are available at this store. 5 tennis balls10 tennis balls $7.50 $11.50 Coach Smith needs to buy 20 tennis balls. How much will she save by purchasing 20 tennis balls in the packages with the lowest unit price compared to the highest unit price? ****Remember unit price means price for 1 tennis ball.

Let’s Review Distance-Rate-Time A train traveled for 12 minutes at a speed of 70 miles per hour. It then immediately slowed to 50 miles per hour and traveled at that speed for the next 48 minutes. What is the total distance the train during this hour? Set up the triangle. ****Do you need 1 triangle or 2 triangles? Check units. Rate is given in miles per hour. Time is given in minutes. Convert minutes to hours by dividing. === 12 min/60 min Now, you do it for 48 minutes. What do you get? ________ Solve. 54 total miles

Time to play Each team member needs a piece of notebook paper divided into 9 sections. You will turn in your work at the end of the class. In order for your team to earn points then all members of a team MUST have the problems worked out on his/her paper. There are 9 envelopes on the board with problems in each one. Each team will start with a different envelope. One member from each team will come to the board to get a problem from the assigned envelope #. You take the problem to your team to solve. Each team has to have the work on their paper before you can get your next problem. After the problem is solved, then return the problem to the envelope and look for your answer to find your next problem to solve. Repeat this until your team has completed all 9 problems successfully!
8
WINNER: The first team to complete all 9 problems successfully will earn 100 points. However, 25 points will be deducted for each team member that does NOT have all the work. 2nd place – 90 points 3 rd place – 80 points And so on… After the game, begin your homework: Complete the problems assigned to page 1 in the foldable. (Top 1-5, Bottom 7-11) ***Remember – Points are awarded to teams with completed homework.

THINGS TO REMEMBER: When you are trying to decide if a number is rational or irrational, ALWAYS convert it to a ___________ then decide which type of number it is. Ex. √5610/5⅝ When solving word problems with Sci. Not. Numbers look for key words to determine the operation. how many times really means DIVIDE how many more really means SUBTRACT combined means to ADD
13
Time to play: STATION 1 Each team is getting a board with two sections labeled Rational and Irrational. Your team will get an envelope with several numbers in it. Your team must separate the numbers into two groups, Rational and Irrational. Place each card on the correct side of the board given to you. You will have 7 minutes to place as many cards as you can in the correct section. When you feel like it is separated into the two groups correctly then one member of the team must get out his/her phone, take a picture of their work and email to your normal math teacher for him/her to score. Be sure you can read the team members name on the picture. Now for Station 2…
14
STATION 2: Your team will receive an envelope of problems to solve. All the problems involve the scientific notation. Each member of your team should have a piece of paper with a total of 16 sections (8 sections on the front and 8 sections on the back). You will use the remaining class time to solve as many of the scientific notation problems as you can. There are only 15 problems. So, write your name in the extra section on your paper. If it’s a word problem, then show how you set it up and then use your calculator. If it’s not a word problem, then write the rules and solve with the calculator. (ex. Mult dec, Add exp solution: 1.2 x 10²)
15
WINNER: Points will be awarded for each station. Top team to get the most rational vs irrational numbers correct will get 100 pts, next team 90 pts, and so on. The top team to get the most sci. not. problems completed correctly and all members showing work will get 100 pts and so on. After the game, begin your homework: Complete the problems assigned to page 2 in the foldable. (Left 1-6, Right 9-16) ***Remember – Points are awarded to teams with completed homework.
