How does it manifest in the classroom? Classroom Strategies Difficulty memorizing math facts Use flash cards, music, chants, pictures, and mnemonic devices. Provide manipulative math approaches and teach students a method to figure out the answer.

How does it manifest in the classroom? Classroom Strategies Difficulty with letters, sounds, or sight words Use flash cards, songs, chants, repeated review, or spiral review. Practice rhymes and alliteration. Use call and response techniques. Emphasize chunking words. Use a tactile approach for kinesthetic learners (ex: trace letters in a baggie of gel or on sandpaper).

Classroom Strategies Difficulty remembering new vocabulary or lesson/text content Keep notes in a notebook and allow student to use a pictorial or visual dictionary. Print a copy of notes, Powerpoint, or Keynote slides for the student. Make auditory recording of lessons for student to replay (iPod/Podcast, iPad, tape recorder, etc.). Relate new vocabulary to prior knowledge, previous lessons, and experiences. Use word maps, webs, or semantic organizers (e.g., the Frayer Model). Give student practice tests/study guides. Use “stop and jot”, “stop and sketch”, post-it notes, or marginalia/annotation when reading. Use graphic organizers.

Have student use an agenda or assignment notebook. Use an assignment template or form. Peer or teacher checks recording of assignments. Make the recording of the assignment an “exit ticket” (ticket out the door).
