A Webcast about the first National Scout Jamboree at the Summit Betchel Reserve. July 15, 2013 Hello my name is Jerry Frese and I am one of the Scoutmasters of the 2013 National Scout Jamboree. During this webcast I hope to tell you and show you the many things we have planned for the Scouts who go with me to the Jamboree next summer. We plan to leave Sunday evening aboard tours busses loaded with scouts and their personal gear much like many of you did this summer as you headed off to summer camp. But this AIN’T like any summer camp you have ever been to before. Why is that?
2
Summit Bechtel Reserve Well for one thing, nobody has ever been to the place where next year’s Jamboree is being held. That because it is all being built RIGHT NOW. The National Council of the Boy Scouts received a large donation from the Bechtel Family and after several years of looking, picked this property in WVA. The National Council then brought in some of the finest outdoor adventure buildersin the world and had them start constructing a world class facility for us to enjoy. Many of them are up there right now and we are going to hear from them later in this webcast.
3
New River Gore, West Virginia The Summit is located in the New River Gore of West Virginia some 7 hours south west of Baltimore. Some of you may have heard of this place because it isfamous for its high suspension bridges and its summer festivals of bungee jumping.Or maybe you have heard about the class 4 white water rafting this area is famous for. But from this day on, I hope you remember it as the place you had the BEST TIME of your Scouting career.
4
Villages of the Summit The summit sits on top of a mountain where five camping villages or base camps are being built as we speak. Each base camp will house 4 subcampsSome 50,000 scouts will be attending the National Scout Jamboree next summer. They will come from all over the United States and all over the world. They will come from Russia and Romania, from Denmark and Dallas, from Brazil and of course from Baltimore. I want you to listen now to some Scouts I met from Denver who will tell you of their plans to go to the Jamboree next Year. Movie
5
Base Camp That’s Denver’s plan now here’s is what we will be doing a year from now. We expect to arrive at our base camp early in the morning of July 15, 2013. The sun will just be rising on a fresh new day in the mountains of West Virginia. The sun also be rising on a brand new adventure for us all.
6
Troop Site Layout We’ll set up our camp site, 24 tents to a troop. Here you see the alternatingcolored tents representing different troops. One of those silver tents will be mine. The Scoutmasters tents are silver so they are easier to find day or night. We will assemble our picnic tables and put them under our diningflys where we will will have our first breakfast. On the edges of the campsite are the pre-built Bath houses and toilet facilities
7
Bath Houses These facilities will be clearly marked for Boys and Adults. There will be individual shower stalls and the water from the showers will be recycled to flush the toilets. Then the water will be processed through an on sitewater treatment facility.
8
No More So this time we won’t have to use those stinky old Port A Potties of days gone by. Since we will arrive early, we will have cooler temperatures to set up our campsite and then we will be the first to try out the Summit’s all new and different activities.
9
The Summit Activities Guys, they have brought in the best in the world to build these activities. For the first time ever, there will a skate board park, a mountain-sized BMX track, 5 mile long zip lines, a walk among the tree top canopy, rappelling down thethe mountain rocks, rafting thru the whitewater rapids, and 13 acres for shooting and archery. I can’t do justice in telling you about these great activities, so let’s hear from the builders themselves. Let go to the videos. Movie
