Are Jeffco’s current supports of the choice process adequate and commensurate with the importance of choice to the community? Jeffco’s Choice Philosophy Are Jeffco’s current supports of the choice process adequate and commensurate with the importance of choice to the community? CESC Commentary: No: need toll for consumer to locate match for student (ID programs – what, where, why, achievement data, philosophy, programs, etc. (drama, DECA, sports)) Proactive marketing/education for families of all Jeffco schools Moral responsibility to ensure the highest quality opportunities in every community Need easier access to info (schools, programs, capacity, etc.) Equitability & transparency Notification & timeliness Variability in processes solved Timely information to families new to the system or area Empowerment for parents’ preferences The ability to choice apply/enroll online Continuity at level changes Need clear, viable demand data Mechanism to capture community voice Seats available model How do we know “importance of choice” to the community? In order to answer question, we need definitions first (choice, demand, expand definitions) Need data Communicate consistent language using definitions How to promote schools without increasing competition YES: Website Choice enrollment form Standardized deadlines NO: Detailed documentation Openings/Availability (alignment with district policy & teachers’ contract) Search engine (compare) Match style of child with school curriculum & philosophy Marketing – info nights

CESC Commentary: YES: Staff is supportive – relationship building critical Support is adequate IF open communication exists NO: Detailed information on website Clearly defining the role/values erc. in choice & enrollment Clarity from parents on school’s expectations & programs Feedback loop/input from current families Honor autonomy (we think Jeffco does this) A clear & effective communication about the programs, cultures, etc. Address questions and any misinformation & misperceptions Welcomed into the conversation on front end – District programs/processes (e.g. Dashboard) Support/coordination for charter specific needs (bond, work comp, etc.) The schools The community
