2  Program originates through Congressional directive 1991 2005 2011  $20m to 25 NGOs implementing activities in 58 countries  Child Blindness Program managed under A2Z: The USAID Micronutrient and Child Blindness Project at the Academy for Educational Development (AED) Background: USAID Child Blindness Program

3  Six competitive cycles have been coordinated  $6.9 million in total grant awards  4 Types of Grants:  Organizational Development (OD) – 1 year grant, from $25,000 – $50,000  Service Delivery (SD) – 2 year grant, from $100,000 - $500,000  Refugee Service Delivery (RSD) – 2 year grant, $200,000  Operations Research (OR) – 9 month grant, $50,000- $100,000 USAID/A2Z Child Blindness & Eye Health Grants Fund: 2005-2011 Fred Hollows Foundation - Vietnam

5 As of March 2011: 41 grants awarded to 24 organizations working in 29 countries throughout Latin America, sub-Saharan Africa, and Asia. Grant Activities have been/are being conducted in: Asia – India (6), Nepal (3), Philippines (2), Cambodia (2), Vietnam (1), Bangladesh (1), Thailand (3), Laos (1) and Indonesia (1) Africa – South Africa (1), Nigeria (1), Malawi (3), Tanzania (4), Niger (1), Uganda (2), Ghana (1), Rwanda (1), Kenya (2), Ethiopia (3), Madagascar (1) and Zambia (1) Latin America – Bolivia (2), Haiti (1), Guatemala (1), Ecuador (1), Mexico (1), Dominican Republic (1), El Salvador (1) and Peru (1) USAID/A2Z Child Blindness & Eye Health Grants Fund
