Tips and Tricks for Biting Director’s Corner June Character Values Review Cooperation- when two or more people work together. Humor-he ability to be funny or to be amused by things that are funny Responsibility-making good decisions and caring for others. May 1, 2015 2 Happy Birthday Children’s Lighthouse There are many reasons why toddlers bite: lack language skills, overwhelmed by s ounds, teething, boredom and being over tired. The first step to preventing biting is to recognize when a bite might occur. This ca n help you anticipate any pending bites. Note what your child was doing, who the y were with and what time of day. Were they hungry? Tired? Frustrated? There are several techniques to help prevent biting. One of the most successful is redirection. Avert your child’s attention to help lighten the tension that your child feels. Even toddlers can feel stress! Reading books about biting can be helpful as well. Remember to be patient! Toddlers do not have the ability to verbally communicat e how they are feeling and what might be bothering them. Biting is a normal and natural occurrence. We are celebrating our first birthday with a classroom party for each class. Parents are more than welcome to come celebrate with us! Parties will begin at 3:00pm on the 19 th of June. I hope that everyone had a fabulous May! I have enjoyed getting to know all of you and the time I have gotten to spend with your children. I want to thank you for making my first month with Childrens Lighthouse pleasant. I am looking forward to ensuring that the program we have to offer continues to be top notch. I can’t wait to see what the future has in store for the CL-Spring family. We have made a couple of changes to the front office staff and I am looking forward to working with the new faces! Ms. Stephanie has joined us as our new Office Admin and starting in June our Kindergarten teacher, Ms. Courtney, will be joining me as our new Assistant Director! ‘The soul is healed by being with children” -Fyodor Dostoyevsky
