What are “learning styles”? Learning styles are different ways of learning
3
Learning styles are different approaches or ways of learning. There are three types of learners. They are “Visual”, “Auditory” and “Kinaesthetic (Tactile)” learners. Vis u a l L e a r n e r s They learn through seeing. These learners need to see the teacher’s body language and facial expression in order to understand a subject. They prefer sitting at the front of the classroom. They can think in pictures and learn best from visualdisplays like diagrams, illustrated text transparencies, books, overhead, videos, flashcards and hand-outs. During a lecture or classroom discussion, visual learners prefer to take detailed notes. A u d i t o r y L e a r n e r s They learn through listening. They learn best through discussions, talking about things and listening to other people. Auditory learners understand the exact meaning in someone’s speech by listening to the tone of voice and speed. Written information doesn’t have much meaning if they don’t hear it. These learners prefer reading aloud and using a tape recorder. K i n a e s t h e t i c ( T a c ti l e ) L e a r n e r s They learn through moving, doing and touching. Kinaesthetic persons learn best by experiencing and actively exploring the physical world around them. It is hard for them to sit still for long periods. They prefer more active jobs or activities. Kinaesthetic students like making experiments and joining sports clubs very much.
4
WHO prefers to take detailed notes? WHO cannot sit still for a long time WHOSE tone of voice very important
5
KINAESTHETIC LEARNER cannot sit still for a long time VISUAL LEARNER prefers to take detailed notes AUDIDORY LEARNER’S tone of voice is very important
6
VISUAL LEARNER likes colours and fashion is good at sign language remembers faces have colourful dreams
7
is good at explaining enjoys music likes to read aloud remembers names AUDITORY LEARNER
8
KINAESTHETIC LEARNER builds models likes science lab is good at sports takes breaks when studying

FUNCTIONS OF THE HEMISPHERES OF THE BRAIN LEFT BRAIN Studying sitting up erect Sees the information from part to whole Look for pieces Express themselves in words Know their feelings, but can’t express Responsible for logical processes Puts details together Figures out cause and effect Uses facts Works with numbers Names items and analyze things Verbal RIGHT BRAIN Study lying down Sees the whole picture Needs outlines Creative Recognizes faces Imagines Music talent Likes drama and poetry Good at art Visual Should use drawings creative writing.

SOME WORDS AND SENTENCES By the way: Aklıma gelmişken to find out: Öğrenmek Express your ideas: Fikirlerini ifade et. What kind of plans do you make before studying? Do you begin to study without making any plans? Try studying your notes
24
SOME WORDS AND SENTENCES Anyway, I told you my advice. Don’t worry! You’ll pass your exams. Let’s forget about the exams for a while. Let’s listen to some music. I usually prefer listening to pop music.

The following are tips to stop too much test anxiety: Develop good study habits: If you know how to study, you will have confidence and that confidence will help to reduce your test anxiety. Be prepared: If you know the material on the test very well, you will have confidence, but if you go into a test unprepared, you will be very anxious. Don’t try to prepare at the last minute: Study your subjects on time. Use your time freely. Do exercise: If you do exercise regularly, you have a healthy mind. Get plenty of sleep: If you don’t have a good rest before an exam, you will feel tired and it will increase test anxiety. Get plenty to eat: Don’t take an exam on an empty stomach. If you get a good meal, you’ll experience less anxiety. Stay positive: Don’t focus on failing the test. Stay relaxed: Take slow, deep breaths and stay in control.
26
