National programme: development of the state 1st class roads is implemented Indicators achieved during implementation of the programme: Reinforcing asphalt cover – 113.68 km Paving of gravel roads with asphalt – 24.71 km Improvement of bearing capacity of bridges – 9 bridges Improvement of urban transit roads – 5.1 km

31 project applications under the Open Call for Project Applications No. 1 were approved (out of these - 4 agreements on implementation of projects have been terminated) Available co-funding from the ERDF – LVL 2,000,000 Repaid by 30/04/2008 – LVL 1,650,600 Problems: Beneficiaries have not become acquainted with provisions of agreements signed Lack of employees to work on implementation of projects in municipalities MINISTRY OF TRANSPORT OF THE REPUBLIC OF LATVIA

Activity 1.2.2: Improvement of efficiency of the transport system in populated areas Sub-activity 1.2.2.1: Optimisation of transport system organisation and traffic safety improvements in populated areas. (Open call for project applications) (II) 154 project applications were submitted under the Open Call for Project Applications No. 2 - 65 applications were approved (out of these - 1 agreement on implementation of the project has been terminated) Available funding from the ERDF – LVL 3,105,328; Repaid by 30/04/2008 – LVL 1,305,633. Problems: Insufficient quality of project progress reports and SF claims prepared Inadequate procurement procedure applied for some procurements Sub-activity 1.2.2.1

Sub-activity 1.2.2.2: Improvement of traffic management, traffic safety infrastructure and public transport management elements in Riga city (I) National programme: Improvement of Riga transport system in 2004 – 2006 (6 projects): 2 projects have been implemented 4 projects are being implemented Sub-activity 1.2.2.2

Sub-activity 1.2.2.2: Improvement of traffic management, traffic safety infrastructure and public transport management elements in Riga city (II) Total costs – LVL 28,059,726.62 Total eligable costs – LVL 23,779,429.35 Co-funding from the ERDF – LVL 15,756,162.88 Repaid by 30/04/2008 – LVL 5,727,850.33 Problems: Due to the rapid increase in costs in the construction sector the project costs have also increased; Timely implementation of sub-projects is impeded by the process of obtaining land into ownership. Activity 1.2.3: Improvement of see ports infrastructure and access to the see (III) National programme "Reconstruction and development of common hydrotechnical buildings of small ports of Latvia (2004 -2006) ” (3 projects) has been implemented Indicators achieved during implementation of the programme: 2 breakwaters reconstructed - in ports of Skulte and Mērsrags Problems: Increase in construction costs, as well as unforeseen works during construction. Indicators achieved during implementation of the programme: 144 base stations have been set up Internet will be available in 98% of the territory of Latvia MINISTRY OF TRANSPORT OF THE REPUBLIC OF LATVIA
