The Board of Governors of Exhibition Place June 2008 ENERGY ACTION PLAN
2
City of Toronto 2007 – Climate Change, Clean Air & Sustainable Action Plan Not only achieve but exceed Kyoto Targets Base Year 1999 Reach 6% reduction by 2012 Reduce 22 million tonnes of CO2 annually
3
The Board of Governors of Exhibition Place 2004 - Exhibition Place Environmental Plan Net Energy Self-Sufficiency by December 31, 2010 Base Year 2005
4
CNEA Board of Directors Identify & address environmental impacts associated with its site Implement programs to prevent and/or minimize its environmental footprint Be an exemplary leader in environmental management Reduce its electrical demand through operating initiatives
5
Making 2010 a Reality What Buildings? Buildings we control – excluded tenanted buildings Includes CNE Reduce What? Electrical Energy only But do not take actions that just convert use of electrical energy to natural gas energy What target? Net Reduction of 25,177 megawatt hours by 2010
6
Energy Action Plan – the Why What is the connection between electrical use and greenhouse gases Each kilowatt hour of electricity use translates into the following greenhouse gases: CO 2 =Multiply by 0.244 kilograms SO X =Multiply by 0.000063 kilograms NO X =Multiply by 0.000348 kilograms Connection is coal-fire burning generators

DOOR GUIDELINES EXTERIOR DOORS All roll up doors exceeding 16 feet will be limited year round to opening of 16 feet high – only exception will be during defined periods for movement of large items as authorized by Operations All to default to a closed mode when interior space is air conditioned Automatically close on timers once opened unless scheduled as open for a defined period by Operations All man doors to remain at default closed mode position – only when a man door is required on a continuous basis will Security key door open for defined period INTERIOR DOORS All perimeter roll up doors & man doors that section the floor space must conform to this policy if the sectioned area requires air conditioning OTHER Supply of air conditioning implemented upon door policy being followed Unconditioned areas - doors may remain open if not connected to conditioned space
25
Temperature Guidelines Cooling is provided to maintain air conditioned facilities at or about 25º C during normal show or occupied hours During off hours, air conditioning will be shut off & temperatures may rise above 25º C Temperatures in the 23-26ºC (73 ºF-78 ºF) range are comfortable for most people as researched by ASHRAE (standard 55-400) Thermal Environmental Conditions for Human Occupancy In non-air conditioned space - exhaust or ventilation fans in ventilation mode during normal show or occupied hours & off at all other times. During show move-in & move-out - there will be no air conditioning only ventilation
26
Building Interior Lighting Guidelines Except when required for security purposes all lighting will be turned off when buildings & facilities are unoccupied i.e. end of day when no activities are in progress. Off settings still allow for required emergency lighting levels in accordance with the Fire Code Office lighting will be on according to office hours of operations while office is occupied & otherwise lighting will be off Exhibit hall lighting will be on as required by schedules for show or event activities – each show will have a Light Hall Schedules
