2 Miyo Wahkohtowin Community Education Authority Background Miyo Wahkohtowin Community Education Authority is completing its first year of FNSSP and is joining with the other Hobbema Four Nations (Montana, Samson and Louis Bull Education) for the coming fiscal year (2011-2012).

3 Miyo Wahkohtowin Community Education Authority First Year (2010-2011) covering: 975 students 4 Schools Second Year (2011-2012) covering: 2237 Students 11 Schools

4 Miyo Wahkohtowin Community Education Authority Governance Miyo Wahkohtowin Board is responsible for policy and for priorities setting. Miyo Wahkohtowin Director of Education is the Project Manager Director of Education, Financial Controller, Director of Student Services, Principals and Coordinators work collaboratively to ensure FNSSP project priorities are set and FNSSP actions are completed

7 Aggregate for us is: Working in collaboration with the other Four Bands Sharing Resources (Coordinators and Systems) Sharing ideas and “know how” Using similar Information Systems and Data Standards Taking advantage of “Economy of Scale”

8 Miyo Wahkohtowin Community Education Authority Policy Miyo and its partners will be using similar policies when it comes to main project elements We use planning tool that allows Project Manager and executive to ensure actions are competed and follow its progress Monthly meeting with Director, Principal and coordinator discussing project progress and strategies. Making Data verification part of the executives monthly reporting check list

9 Miyo Wahkohtowin Community Education Authority Programs Timeline and current position Planning: we are already have in place schools success plan (Updated Yearly) Student Learning Assessment: Developed Assessment Tools for Literacy and Numeracy in addition to PAT Performance Measures: Student Information System and Education Management System implemented to collect key indicators and analysis.

10 Miyo Wahkohtowin Community Education Authority Other Four Bands (starting April 1, 2011) We will be using similar planning tool and sharing our planning Methodology Share our Assessment Tools and come up with Standardized Assessment across Four Bands in addition to PAT use same Information System and Education Management System implemented to collect key indicators and analysis

11 Miyo Wahkohtowin Community Education Authority FNSSP programming that is making a measurable difference (Literacy) Using balanced literacy as the philosophy and framework for language arts programming. 3-minute reading assessment to target area for our struggling students. purchase grade level appropriate reading material to target the areas of student weakness. Writing rubrics that are used school wide Focused on assessment for Language Arts: real focus on differentiated instruction to meet students needs in reading and writing Put diagnostic assessment in place and use Dossier Education Management System to report and analyse

12 Miyo Wahkohtowin Community Education Authority FNSSP programming that is making a measurable difference (Numeracy) Math resource program assisting students in problem solving and basic skills (about 100 students measured by entrance and exit testing) Numeracy testing (every student from K-6 is tested twice throughout the year to assess growth) Teacher training in assessment and math strategies to improve confidence and effectiveness in instruction (teachers complete a survey to report on their programing and are evaluated by admin on instructional practices)

13 Miyo Wahkohtowin Community Education Authority Programs sustainability of the success: Creating and following a 3-year common Curriculum Plan to increase consistency through out the school division professional development in balanced literacy and other areas of of Literacy and Numeracy Creating a collaborative environment where colleagues work together to program and plan for students Using data collected to support programing and provide support to teachers Teacher and Staff retention

Restorative Justice is an approach focused on the harm that, depending on the process/technique, involves the victim, the offender, their social networks, school and community
