MMC Is a Widely Distributed Project Participants zOak Ridge National Laboratory zLawrence Berkeley National Laboratory zUniversity of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign zNational Institutes of Standards and Technology zArgonne National Laboratory Support zDOE - Mathematical Informational and Computational Sciences zDOE - Basic Energy Sciences zDOE - Energy Efficiency zDOC - NIST zUS Industry zMultinational Industry Partners zGatan, Inc. zRJ Lee Instruments Ltd. zEMiSPEC Systems, Inc. zPhilips Electron Optics zNSA - Hitachi Scientific Instruments zJEOL USA, Inc. zSun Microsystems, Inc. zGraham Technology Solutions, Inc.
3
MMC Is Moving Forward zWe have automated many instrument operations wOne cannot have remote control without computer control zWe have put web video everywhere w38 video streams at last count zWe have several instruments online today wNow that the tools are ready, many more will be online soon zWe have actively promoted electronic collaboration wDemos, not just talks, at major events in the US and abroad zOur industrial partners are active wThis is not easy to do but is critical for wide spread adoption of our technologies in the future zWe are active in education wInvolved in several classrooms and schools, and have developed a proposal with ORAU for significantly greater interaction with universities
4
Our Industrial Partners Are Responding to the Needs of the MMC zRJ Lee is using streaming web video as part of its analytical services business and is incorporating remote operation in its next product zGatan and EMiSPEC are implementing remote control in their next version updates zJEOL has changed its approach to design of its next generation control system due to its interaction with the MMC zPhilips is announcing a new software interface for remote control at a trade show next month zHitachi has converted its SEM to full computer control
