2 Introduction  In its bid to be a world class employer of choice, Safaricom has gone to great lengths to ensure that the needs of its working mothers are well taken care of through :-  Adoption of various best practices in creating a mother - friendly work environment and work life balance  Comprehensive insurance cover  Investing in child care facilities e.g. Creche’  Implementing HR best practice  At the Call Centre, ratio of men to women is 1:1 and the average age of employees at the Call Centre is 27

3  State of the art child day-care facility fully equipped (play and sleep areas) run by childcare professionals.  Mothers can leave baby under care of the professionals at no charge.  Doctor on site should the children fall sick.  A mother’s room : Fully equipped in a hygienic and private environment for expressing of milk and breastfeeding.

4 Comprehensive Medical Insurance Pre - Delivery Ante natal clinics and scans covered including both natural and caesarean deliveries. Post - Delivery Immunizations are catered for up to 9 months solidly ensuring the child’s healthy start in life.

5 Other Services –Gymnasium to keep the working mothers fit and healthy. –Games Room – To relieve stress, assist to unwind and socialize.

6  Cafeterias with healthy food choices to accentuate faster recovery and good health.  Children can join the working mother for lunch or any meal.  Libraries to research on all materials including working mothers roles.

7  3 month Maternity Leave + Annual Leave.  Creation of mother friendly working hours for the employees on shift based positions. Such mothers work shifts that support breastfeeding up to 7 months after delivery.

8 With the above measures in place, Safaricom has once again become a pace setter for other like minded Corporates in Kenya, who would wish to be identified as supporting mother friendly environments. At Safaricom we care. Conclusion
