This presentation will cover the events that led to the Texas Revolution, including the Battle of Gonzales and the attack at the Alamo. Each event will be explained thoroughly, then, it will show how the particular event was a key event in the makings of the Texas Revolution. At the end, there will be quiz over the information we covered, so take notes and pay close attention.

3. Battle of Gonzales
The Battle of Gonzales was the aftermath of when a settlement called Gonzales refused to give back a cannon given to them by the Mexican Government. Domingo de Ugartechea sent 300 dragoons to retrieve the cannon, along with Francisco de Casteñeda to lead them. After reaching the Guadalupe River, the group set camp on the opposite side of the settlement. On October 1, 1835, the Texan settlers crossed the river and on the second of October, the battle began. When the fighting started to die down, Casteñeda and the leader of the Texans, John Henry Moore, met and tried to negotiate. Moore refused to hand over the cannon, and out-numbered, Casteñeda and what was left of his crew retreated without success.

4. Battle of the Alamo
The Battle of the Alamo was a tragic battle fought in present-day San Antonio. The actual fighting took place in a mission called the Alamo. Led by William B. Travis, the Texans held against Santa Anna’s forces for thirteen days. Santa Anna arrived on February 23, 1836, and on March 6, 1836, the Texans were out-numbered and, tragically, lost the battle of the Alamo. The Spanish troops had climbed over the walls and fired cannons, overwhelming the Texans, and securing there success.

5. Battle of San Jacinto
The Battle of San Jacinto was the concluding battle of the Texas Revolution. 1,200 Texans, led by Samuel Houston, fought against 1,325 Mexican Soldiers. Santa Anna, the President of Mexico, led the Mexican Soldiers into battle. The actual fighting only lasted for twenty minutes, with few Texan casualties. The next day, Santa Anna was captured by Sam Houston and later, surrendered and signed a treaty giving Texas independence from Mexico, which allowed Texas to become an independent country.
