Professional Development Plan Externship Contact Hours Tracking
2
Requirement Networking Students must complete an externship consisting of Software Development and Maintenance. Our Medical, Child Care Development, and Automotive Students must complete Externship hours in the field.
3
Integration Idea To have our Networking students create and maintain a database to track the hours spent in the field by our Medical, Child Care, and Automotive students. To have our Medical, Child Car, and Automotive students use the database created by our Networking students to track Field Hours.
4
Impact On Teachers The instructors would be able to better direct the students in their actual Field Experience, when the responsibility for recording hours has been transferred from the Instructors to the students.
5
Impact on Students The Networking students would get real life experience creating and maintaining the database. The Medical, Child Care, and Automotive students would be required to be more responsible making sure their hours were entered and verified correctly.
6
Impact on the Administrators The Administrators would have an electronic database to go to, in the Case of an Accreditation visit, as opposed to bringing out masses of paper work for each program.
7
Impact on Community The community will have a better opportunity for working with the students as an electronic database will allow for more freedom for the students to work in the Community. Up until now, our scope had been limited to facilities understanding our complex paperwork system. With an electronic database, I believe this will eliminate some of the complexity.
8
School Technology Plan The Professional Development Idea is in line with our School Technology plan in that, the Northshore Technical Community College is moving to a more computer based system in all aspects. We have already moved to a on- line student registration system. Therefore, an electronic tracking system for Field Experience would be a wonderful addition.
9
Who’s Responsible: Professional Development Our Administrative team would be responsible for the Professional Development concerning this project. They would hold training and information meetings to fully inform the Instructors of what would change and how they would be involved and need to prepare.
10
Who’s Responsible: Technology Infrastructure Our Networking Department would be in charge of the hardware, software, maintenance, etc. Associated with this project. Due to the fact that the Networking students would also be receiving Field Experience hours.
11
Who’s Responsible: Communication/Documentation of Success Our Student Affairs Office would be responsible for telling the Community of the Project and reporting the outcomes of the actual Implementation, as they are the direct link for the Community to our school.
12
Timeline Administration will discuss the pros and cons of using a student developed Field Experience and tracking system. They will decide when the system should be implemented, and discuss with Instructors how it will be used in grading.
13
Time Line Networking Department Networking Instructors Develop Lesson Plan and Grading system for Students needing Externship Hours Networking students create, as part of their Field Experience, a database and develop a maintenance plan for the database that will fall to the next class of Externship Students.
14
Timeline Medical, Child Care, and Automotive Faculty Develop Lesson plan and Grading structure for students that will be using the Networking Students database for Field Experience.
15
Timeline All students will follow up with Instructors and let them know how the database it working for them, what changes need to be made, and how the database should be presented to the next group of students.
16
Timeline One the database has been for one semester. The Administration and Faculty will meet with the Student Affairs Office and discuss how the new Technology will presented to the Community. Student Affairs will then develop their own timeline for presenting the Technology.
17
Evaluation and Reflection In creating and implementing this Technology, I believe it will lead to a more streamlined process for tracking Field Experience for our students and eliminate some of the cumbersome and time consuming tracking our Instructors use. I see this giving the students a more confidence in their Field Experience and therefore more confidence in themselves.
