1 The Future of Organ Labeling and Verification
Linette Meyer Manager of Organ Preservation Services

2 HHS Innovation Project for Organ Labeling and Tracking
Project Goals: Reduce incorrect transplantation Eliminate transcription errors Eliminate legibility errors Minimize complexity Minimize transport errors Accelerate organ information transfer Capture organ procurement/transport data

3 ETT Learning and Initial Field Testing
Understanding variations in process OPO visits: LifeSource, California Transplant Donor Network, Gift of Hope, LifeLink of Georgia, LifeNet Health of Virginia Transplant Centers: University of Minnesota, ILNM, Piedmont Hospital of Georgia, John Hopkins and University of Maryland, VCU Medical Center of Richmond, University of California, San Francisco Field Testing: included training, proficiency testing, testing on donor cases, 24/7 support from ETT team LifeNet Health (VA) LifeSource (MN) California Transplant Donor Network LifeLink Living Legacy Foundation

4 Organ Validation, Labeling and Tracking System
Donor Management Workflow Enhanced Validation Vessel Label Entry Print on Demand Operating Room Post OR Package Shipping Labels & Barcode Box Contents Ship – Scan When Ready to Ship Transport , Text Alerts Scan – Ready to Ship Scan – Receipt Transplant Center Print Recipient ID Band Receive Organ Match Organ to Recipient

5 LifeSource Participation
LifeSource Visit – learning about the process Electronic Tracking and Transport-Phase I LifeSource Training: Sept 23/ Field Implementation /Support: October 2013 – April 1, 2014 Continued from April 1 -September 1, 2014 TransNet Beta Testing UNOS Training: September 10-11, 2014 LifeSource Training and Competency Training: September 17-22nd Implementation on September 29, 2014 Completion of Beta Testing: January 15, 2014

24 Notice the option to Print Shipping and Organ Labels
Notice the option to Print Shipping and Organ Labels. If you’ve misplaced or disfigured any of the previously printed labels, they can be reprinted at this time. Receive heart Move heart to shipping area and attach internal organ label - may not have everything else for the shipping box but need to keep the organ on ice.

25 Ensure Correct Box Contents are Checked- anything scanned and not put in the box is a fatal error.
