Motivation – Natural Air Energy HVAC = Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning Massive household energy consumption Different needs for different climates Humidity almost never considered Make improvements on the previous version of this project.
3
Project History iTemp – First design Ineffective Software was slow Did not have a hardware simulation for AC Unit Efficient HVAC System – Second design Expensive, and excessive components (Panda Board) Mobile Application and Website never completed
4
Project Overview Web connectivity Website that can control an HVAC system MySQL Database for storing user entries Mobile Phone Application that mimics website Hardware simulator based on redesign of HVAC system
5
Specifications MySQL Database stores user information Secure login for users Secure login for advanced administrator functions Website accessible by mobile and desktop browsers Hardware reads temperatures & humidity CO2 Sensor Machine to Machine Communication

MySQL Database Stores HVAC system data Stores customer and administrator credentials Temperature, Humidity, Tolerance control Seven Day Scheduler Programming Basic User Settings stored Advanced Administrator Settings stored
10
Website Application Allows a user to control their home HVAC system from a web browser. Based on the format of previous screens. Has all the same functions of the previous system. Obtains all of the consumer’s changes from their specific entries within the database.
11
Website Application - Tools Control and monitor a user’s HVAC system from a desktop or mobile web browser. PHP – For coding database interaction SQL – Direct communication with Database jQuery/AJAX – Dynamic, automatic updating Dreamweaver – hand coding PHP and SQL Gator Host – www.naturalairenergy.com
12
Mobile Software Comparisons Android iOS (iPhone) SDK is free Many different software programs available that supports Android Primary language is Java SDK is $100 roughly Few other software programs are compatible with it Primary language is Objective-C
13
Mobile Website Solution jQuery Mobile provided a third option Mobile Website similar to main website Accessible to a various phones such as Android and iPhone No development fees Works on most mobile browsers and formats Accessed using the /m website address

Temperature Sensor I LM34 (Precision Fahrenheit Temperature Sensors) Linear +10.0 mV/˚F scale factor Operates from 5 to 30 volts Less than 90 µA current drain (small power consumption) ±0.8°C accuracy (normally)
26
Temperature Sensor II This setting works ranging from +5˚ to +300˚F
27
Humidity Sensor CHS-MSS (TDK) Compact size Low current consumption. Debug the humidity directly with a voltmeter Measuring range from 20 % to 85 % RH Nominal Accuracy is ± 5 % RH Operating Condition : 0 to +50°C (in 5V)
28
CHS-MSS Characteristic Three pin –GND, Vin, Vout Linear relationship (RH VS Output Voltage) 1V 100 % RH 0.8v 80% RH

CO2 Gas Sensor Parallax Inc 27929 Power requirements: 6.5 - 15 VDC @ 160 mA (Sense Mode) / 2 mA (Standby) Gas over-limit alarm Price: $39.99 4 pin connection - E1 (Heat switch)0-12V -E3 Vin (6.5-12V) - E2 (Alarm output)0-3.3V -E4 Gnd Noted :First time use need to do the calibration
30
Analog to Digital Converter (ADC) Most controller is digital in nature (PIC32 is same) Only recognize High and Low (0 or 1) Need ADC to convert voltage reading to digital representation 10 bits ADC in PIC 32 (from 0-3.3 V) 3.3 V/(2^10) = 3.22 mV (precision of reading) PIC 32 has 2 multiplexer for ADC
