2.  Joint Initiative: ◦ IDVA (Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs) ◦ IBHE (Illinois Board of Higher Education) ◦ ICCB (Illinois Community College Board)  Purpose: ◦ To explore ways to improve that veteran and military students are granted appropriate academic credit (amount and type) for the education, skills and experience they have earned in the military services. ◦ To increase rate of college completion among military and veteran students.

3.  Pilot Study Proposed  IDVA Identified Potential Pilot Study Participants: ◦ College of DuPage ◦ Joliet Junior College ◦ Kaskaskia College ◦ Moraine Valley Community College ◦ Northern Illinois University ◦ Southern Illinois University Carbondale ◦ Southwestern Illinois College ◦ University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign  Grant funding will be sought to support the pilot

4.  Acquisition & Effective Communication of Information ◦ Obtain current, sufficiently in-depth information on military training  Articulation of Military Training by Higher Ed Institutions ◦ Determine military/veteran programming most likely to correlate to certificate/vocational programs and Associate/Baccalaureate degrees ◦ Articulate military training to higher education courses

5.  Community colleges identified popular programs of study among military & veteran students: ◦ College of DuPage - Fire Science, Homeland Security, Automotive ◦ Joliet Junior College - Criminal Justice, Fire Science, Network Security, EMS/Paramedic programs ◦ Kaskaskia College - Automotive, Truck Driving, Network Administration, Criminal Justice ◦ Moraine Valley Community College - Criminal Justice, EMS/Paramedic programs ◦ Southwestern Illinois College - Electrical and Electronics Repairs

6.  IDVA identified popular military career fields aligning with those programs of study: ◦ Automotive Service Technicians and Mechanics ◦ Computer Support Specialists/Operators/Security Specialists Electrical and Electronics Repairs ◦ Military Police ◦ Military Medic ◦ Supply & Logistics Support ◦ Truck Driver  IDVA will gather & share information on military training/coursework to aid articulation evaluation process.
