3 About tonight’s meeting Targeted towards parents & students who received a letter stating their current 8 th grade student will attend Summit High School next year (2010-11 school year) How many received this letter? Purpose: to provide information on new High School boundaries For those with Elementary school or Middle school boundary questions, information is available at the front December 2, 2009

5 High School Boundaries New boundaries take effect for the 2010-11 school year Jurupa Hills HS Implementation: –Incoming 9 th and 10 th grade students in JHHS area will attend JHHS –Three-Year Implementation: 2010/11: Grades 9 and 10 only 2011/12: Grades 9, 10, and 11 2012/13: All grades 9-12 A.B. Miller, FOHI, Kaiser, and Summit changes: –Incoming 9 th grade students affected by the boundary changes –Students already in high school do not have to switch schools –4-year implementation plan Initial 9 th grade students progress each year All grades will go by the new boundaries in 2013/14 December 2, 2009

9 Summit Curriculum: Overview Summit High School is a comprehensive high school for grades 9-12 Courses will include curriculum that will prepare students for their post-secondary future – –All core courses meet the UC/CSU entrance requirements –Elective choices will be offered in a variety of Career Pathways All students will have access to additional support – –Enrichment, Intervention, English Language Development, CAHSEE Preparation, Odyssey credit recovery Advanced Academics – –Honors, Advanced Placement December 2, 2009

10 Summit Curriculum: Special Education Summit will operate a variety of Special Education Programs for students with active IEP’s. Students will have access to the general education curriculum. Students will take intervention classes to help them pass the high school exit exam. Students will receive quarterly progress reports. Teachers will meet with parents and students to review their IEP at least one time per year. December 2, 2009

15 Transportation New High School walk radius: 4 miles Bus stop information will be available in April 2010 Same cost structure as all other high schools 4-mile Walk radius BLUE outlines: New Elementary School Boundaries December 2, 2009

16 Intra-District Transfers Current 8 th grade students living in the Summit boundary will be enrolled at Summit for the 2010-11 school year Current 9 th – 11 th grade students will remain at their current high school Students currently in 8 th grade living in the Summit boundary area that have a sibling in 11 th grade at an existing High School may apply for a ONE-YEAR ONLY intra-district transfer to attend that school with their sibling Transfer Procedure: –Child Welfare & Attendance and SELPA handle all transfer requests –Forms are available this evening, at any school site, or at the District offices –Open Enrollment for Intra-District Transfers will be December 1, 2009 through January 29, 2010 –Completed Forms are to be turned in at the school site requested –JHHS forms are to be turned in to Child Welfare & Attendance (CWA, trailer #12 at the District Office Complex) Reminder: ALL current Intra-district transfer students must complete a New Application for the 2010-11 school year December 2, 2009
