CUAbroad Strategic Goals 2008-2009 To support the university’s efforts to strengthen the student experience, CUAbroad will: Review and assess existing CUA education abroad programs & initiate new programs Develop guidelines and procedures for education abroad program evaluation and proposal (including health, safety and liability, emergency protocol, etc.) Encourage faculty to get involved in leading education abroad programs (short-term programs)

Semester Abroad Overview Earn up to 15 credits Must have completed 45 credits Full-time degree-seeking student at the time of application 2.8 minimum G.P.A. and no disciplinary probation (The Oxford Honors program requires 3.5 G.P.A.) Language of instruction: English or host country’s language Wide range of subjects Open to all majors

CUA in Rome – FLAGSHIP PROGRAM Full-time on-site CUA resident director Fall & Spring semesters Use of CUA’s own facilities: library, computer lab, student lounge Excursions to Tuscany and the Bay of Naples No prior knowledge of Italian required Courses are taught in English & Italian Liberal Arts Track (live in dorm, 1 Italian course) Immersion Track (host family, 2 Italian courses)

CUA’s Oxford Honors Program Fall and Spring Semesters (starting fall 2009) 3.5 G.P.A. for undergraduates (3.8 for graduates) A wide range of subjects Take 3 tutorials totaling 15 credits for undergrads and 9 for graduates Students will be reading, researching and writing when not meeting with their tutors Oxford college affiliation Live in Oxford student housing (single rooms, shared kitchen, lounge & bathroom)

13. International Internships Gain professional experience in your field with an internship abroad. Earn course credits and add an international component to your resume LOCATIONS: BELGIUM: Brussels/Leuven UK: London, England IRELAND: Dublin Additional options will be offered in the future

14. Short-term Programs Led by CUA faculty Offered during spring and summer breaks One to six weeks in length For-credit options and spring break trips Stay with host families or in student housing Open to undergraduates & graduates Must have 2.5 min. G.P.A. to obtain credit

Non-CUA Program Options Not affiliated with CUA Offered by other institutions & organizations Research programs by accredited institutions Have program approved by CUAbroad Appointment with CUAbroad advisor, academic advisor and Transfer Coordinator Must have courses pre-approved Consult with Financial Aid (CUA aid does not apply) Complete CUAbroad & provider’s applications Receive transfer credit (C or better, no grades)

What’s New & Exciting Expanded program offerings to include all continents CUA scholarships & service learning options will be available Oxford Honors Program (OPUS) – new for fall ‘09 London Internship for all majors – new for spring ‘10 New program options in Argentina, Chile, China, Ecuador, France, India, Japan, Morocco, New Zealand and South Africa (with IES)

Financing Education Abroad CUA students pay tuition plus a program fee ($5,000) Program fee covers housing, excursions, and meals if offered) No CUA campus housing and meal plan charged Visa, round-trip airfare and personal expenses not included Cost breakdown sheets provided and shared with Financial Aid CUA grants & scholarships, federal & state aid are ALL available for affiliated programs

Getting Started Start planning early Visit the Education Abroad Office Attend an Education Abroad 101 Info Session Discuss plans with faculty advisor Research programs & talk with former participants Apply early (Deadlines: March 1 and October 1) TO APPLY: Online Application, Statement of Purpose, Transcript, Letter(s) of Recommendation, Resume (for internships), Course Approval, Proof of Health Insurance, Copy of Passport, Photos
