The Advance of the Kingdom Seeing the Sequence and Significance of the Biblical Story “His kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and his dominion endures from generation to generation.” ~ Daniel 4:3b ~
2
What? The “Sequence” of the Kingdom of God Our goal in these sermons is to better understand the Bible: That it is a Unified story That it is a unified story of the eternal Kingdom of God That this eternal kingdom advances through the work of Salvation That the central Person of this unified story is Jesus our King and Savior That the story of Jesus our King and Savior is revealed in the Bible through a series of Covenants That this unified story has everything to do with Us
3
Why? The “Significance” of the Kingdom of God We must acknowledge that this study is very relevant & practical for us: Matthew 6:33 “But seek first the Kingdom of God…” Psalm 119:162 “I rejoice at your word like one who finds great spoil.” 2 Corinthians 3:18 “…beholding the glory of the Lord, [we] are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another…”
4
“What’s this got to do with Father’s Day?” Deuteronomy 6:5-7 “You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you like down, and when you rise.” Your child’s knowledge of God lies heavily upon your shoulders The most thrilling activity/the most enduring legacy = The Kingdom Don’t loose heart: it’s never too late to start! 1 Timothy 1:15-17 “…Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost. But I received mercy for this reason, that in me, as the foremost, Jesus Christ might display his perfect patience as an example to those who were to believe in him for eternal life. To the King of ages, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.”
