How do you get great pictures? Take a TON of pictures! Use the “kill your darlings” editing advice—if it’s not right, get rid of it. Does the picture make you ask a question? Let’s look at Mr. Thompson’s poster—what does it cause us to wonder about? Pictures drive readers to the captions with questions they want answers to In sports… ACTION, FACE(S), BALL In everything… ACTION, FACE(S)

Find what you think is a great photograph online or in a magazine. (Sports photographs are best but not required.) Write a short paragraph (3-4 sentences) about what you think makes it a great photograph.
