Global Warming By Georgina Dunham and Lydia White
4
What is global warming? Global warming refers to an average increase in the Earth's temperature, which in turn causes changes in climate. A warmer Earth may lead to changes in rainfall patterns, a rise in sea level, and a wide range of impacts on plants, wildlife, and humans. When scientists talk about the issue of climate change, their worry is about global warming caused by human activities, such as: Leaving electrics on. Driving vehicles. Getting food from foreign countries.
5
What causes global warming? Global warming happens when greenhouse gases (carbon dioxide, water vapour, nitrous oxide, and methane) trap heat and light from the sun in the earth’s atmosphere, which increases the temperature. This hurts many people, animals, and plants. Many cannot take the change, so they die. Many things cause global warming. One thing that causes global warming is electrical pollution. Electricity causes pollution in many ways, some worse than others. In most cases, fossil fuels are burned to create electricity. Fossil fuels are made of dead plants and animals.
6
What is global warming doing to the environment? Global warming is affecting many parts of the world. Global warming makes the sea rise, and when the sea rises, the water covers many low land islands- animals’ habitats. Although animals have a better ability to adapt to what happens than plants do, they may also die. When the plants and animals die, people lose two sources of food, plant food and animal food. Animals may also lose their homes. As a result, they would also have to leave the area or die. This would be called a break in the food chain, or a chain reaction, one thing happening that leads to another and so on.

FOOD MILES By… James Stalley Brody Thomson William Stockton
9
Food Miles According to sustainable Agriculture, fresh food is hauled an average of 1500 to 2500 miles from farm to table which is 25% farther than in 1980. The concept of food miles is part of the broader issue of sustainability which deals with a large range of environmental issues, including local food. The term was coined by Tim Lang (now professor of food policy, city university, London.)
10
Food Miles Facts If you buy a pizza from Italy your food is travelling approximately, 890 miles to get to your table. In the UK, our food travels an amazing 30 billion kilometres a year. This includes imports by boat and air as well as transport by lorries and cars. Food transport is responsible for the UK adding nearly 19 million tonnes of carbon dioxide to the atmosphere each year. Over 2 million tonnes of this product simple by cars travelling to and from shops.
11
How you can help? The individual consumer can make a difference right away, by simply walking to local shops, when possible, and buying fresh ingredients to cook at home. Thank you for watching!

RECYCLING BY Oliver Armstrong George Crawte
13
RECYCLING Its important to recycle because it saves you having not to cut down any trees. It is also important to recycle your products so we don’t use up our wasteland.
14
Recycling pg 1 Paper is separated into the following groups: –Magazines –Newspapers –Office paper –Cardboard –Phone directories.
15
Recycling pg 2 24 million homes in the UK have a personal computer and 90% of those homes have printers. Buy recycled wood whenever possible
16
Recycling pg 3 –Throwing things away is a waste of the resources and energy which have been used to make the product. They make recycling your old printer cartridges easy by offering free collection envelopes.
17
Pg 4 Recycling Appeal incentives include: Freepost envelopes or free collection for multiple items Choose your appeal from a number of charities Recycle phones, PDAs and printer cartridges Take wood to civic amenity sites for recycling
