Information * While visiting other planet, we will learn why we can’t live on that planet. * Know which planets belongs to the rock family and the gas family. * Know that all planet have a day and a night. * Learn how long it takes for the planet to travel around the sun. * Have a class activity. Select a student to be the sun and then select another to be a planet and so on till all the planets are in place. Then have them revolve around the sun. This will give the students a visual of the solar system and a fun activity to participate in as well. Home

Mercury * Is the closest planet to the sun * It is in the Rock family of planets * Is the smallest planet and has no moon * One day on this planet is 58 ½ Earth days * Takes 88 days to go around the sun Click on the space ship to take you back to the planets Home

Mars * Is known as the red planet * Has the largest mountains in the solar system * It is part of the rock family * It takes 687 days to go around the sun * One day on this planet is 24 hours 37 minutes Click on the space ship to take you back to the planets Home
10
Jupiter * Is the biggest planet in the solar system. * This is a gas planet * It has many moons * It takes 4332 days to go around the sun. * One day on this planet is 9 hours and 55 minutes Click on the space ship to take you back to the planets Home
11
Saturn * The rings that circle the planet are made of ice * This is a gas planet * This planet has many moons * It takes10,759 days to go around the sun * One day on this planet is 10 hours and 13 minutes Click on the space ship to take you back to the planets Home
12
Uranus * This planet spins on it side, like a bowling ball * It has rings that circle the planet. The rings are made up of black dust and rock. The rings are hard to see. * This is a gas planet * It takes 30,684 days to go around the sun * One day on this planet is 17 hours Click on the space ship to take you back to the planets Home
