1 Classifying Resources
Natural vs. Man-made and How do we know what to recycle?

2 What is a Resource? A resource is something that can be used.
Resources can be classified or grouped in several different ways. In this lesson, we are looking at natural resources and man-made resources

3 Natural Resources Natural resources come from the environment around us. Microsoft. (Designer). (2010). Lake [Web Graphic]. Retrieved from

4 Natural Resources They include things that are nonliving, such as water, soil, rocks, and air.

5 Natural Resources They include things that are living, such as plants and animals.

6 Man-Made resources A man-made resource is something that has been made by a person. This man is making a glass object.

These are man-made.

10 How do we know what to recycle?
There are many objects that can be recycled. Some of these are: paper glass metal and aluminum plastic and clothes

11 Paper Many kinds of paper are recyclable.
scrap paper newspaper cardboard magazines Just remember to check that the paper is not soiled.

12 Glass Glass can be recycled.
Some cities want the glass sorted by color: transparent (clear) and colored.

13 Metal/Aluminum Metal recyclables include: aluminum cans steel cans
copper

14 Plastic Many plastic containers can be recycled. Look for the symbol.
The most common plastic to recycle will have the number 1 on it. Plastics with the number 2 are also commonly recycled.

15 Clothes These items don’t go to recycling centers like the glass, paper, plastic, and metal. You can ‘recycle’ clothes by: donating them giving them to someone else making them into something new

16 How I can help the environment?
If we all do our part with conserving natural resources and recycling products, we will help to ensure that there are enough natural resources for a long time.
