3 BROOKHAVEN SCIENCE ASSOCIATES Overview of LOB Design (WBS 1.05.02.02) Baseline Plan LOB Design Deferred to 2010 Construction start limited by funding availability Beamline support requirements can be better defined later A/E can focus on Ring Building Design. LOB Design can now be Advanced using ARRA funding Avoid inefficiencies in construction sequence Determine likely conventional facilities costs sooner DOE approved enlarged LOB concept in April 2009 Experimental Facilities Division Programs the LOB Meetings with HDR Lab Planners Feb - March 09 Town Hall Meeting with Users on 3-25-2009

25 BROOKHAVEN SCIENCE ASSOCIATES LOB Design Review Process In Preparation for Title II LOB Design Review Submittals Various Design Coordination Meetings with BNL/HDR HDR submitted Title II LOB Design at 50% and 100% Each submittal distributed for design review to: BNL ES&H group, BNL Fire Protection group, BNL Plant Engineering, Commissioning agent and NSLS II Project team HDR conducts design presentation/review mtg at BNL NSLS II collects comments from stakeholders - transmits to HDR 50% comments not incorporated repeated on 100% comments 100% comments posted on share point and tracked until resolved NSLS II project team goes to HDR to discuss/plan comment resolution

26 BROOKHAVEN SCIENCE ASSOCIATES LOB Design Review Process (Cont) Finalizing design for LOB Bid Issue Set HDR committed to provide advance copies of drawings with revisions prior to issuing the Bid Set NSLS II reviews these advance copies and return comments if any prior to issue of Bid Set

27 BROOKHAVEN SCIENCE ASSOCIATES Coordination with Ring Contractor LOB RFP and Bid Package structured so that LOB can be built by contractor other than Ring Bldg contractor Held numerous planning meetings to determine coordination requirements for two contractors to work on the site Coordination affected: Schedule of when construction of LOBs could begin adjacent the Ring bldg Site access and laydown/staging areas Movement of materials within the site Contractor insurance and liability considerations

28 BROOKHAVEN SCIENCE ASSOCIATES Conclusion Extensive Lab and Office programming provides confidence that design will meet needs Conducted 50% review August 15, 2009 Conducted 100% review October 13, 2009 Bid set scheduled for submittal on November 18, 2009 Confident Bid Set will be well coordinated and complete Market conditions support favorable pricing Looking forward to a successful procurement process
