4
What are Newton’s 3 Laws of Motion? Go On
5
The tendency of a body to resist a change in motion. The amount of inertia a body possesses. Measure of the force of gravity on an object. Add these to your vocab. section in your binder!
6
Newton’s Laws Notes Use the following slides to complete your Newton’s Laws worksheet. Go On
7
Name: _________________ Class: __________________ Newton’s First LawNewton’s Second LawNewton’s Third Law Example: In simple terms: Go On
8
An object at rest, remains at rest unless a force acts on it. An object in motion, remains in motion unless a force acts on it. Newton’s 1 st Law In simple terms… See next slide Go On
9
9 In simple terms… Things do not go or stop without a force acting on it. FOR EXAMPLE… See next slide Go On
11
Newton’s 2 nd Law An object’s acceleration depends on the mass of the object and the amount of force applied to it (F=ma). In simple terms… See next slide Go On
12
12 In simple terms… It takes more force to move and to stop a larger mass. FOR EXAMPLE… Discuss examples with your partner or use the textbook Go On
13
For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. Go On
14
Which of Newton's Laws would explain the motions shown in the following pictures? Explain why you chose each law. IN YOUR NOTES SECTION: Go On Conclusion:
15
When you are finished telling which law and EXPLAINING for each picture, then you may check answers on next slide.
16
The third law… The person is pushing in one direction and moving the see saw in the other. The first law… The car was in motion and it stayed in motion until… it hit the wall !! The second law…A lot of force will be needed to stop the large running bison. Less force will be needed to stop the smaller calf. Go On
