2 Date It Became A State Georgia became a State in 1733. Counties were not formed until 1777. At that time it was only a portion of what Georgia is today.

3 Nickname Georgia’s nickname is the “Peach State”. Georgia is known for their highest quality of fruit. The peach became the state official fruit in 1995.

4 Motto The Motto is Wisdom, Justice and Moderation. Georgia hasn’t specifically adopted a Motto. Their mottoes were adopted as elements of the State Seal.

5 State Flower The state flower is the Cherokee Rose. In 1916 with help of women clubs the flower was named as the floral emblem. The name came from the Cherokee who widely distributed the plant.

8 State Seal The seal is a symbolic image of the constitution as an arch. The arch is held up by 3 pillars to represent the 3 branches of government. It has a banner on there witch says “ Wisdom, Justice, and Moderation”(Georgia’s motto). Then the constitution symbol is protected with a guardian.

11 State Flag Georgia’s State flag has three red and white stripes and the state coat of arms in the blue section of the flag. The 13 state are to represent Georgia’s position as one of the 13 original colonies.

13 State Coin The coin represents several symbolic traditions. The Peach is in the middle, the peach is very associated around Georgia. For the background it displays Live Oak branches with the State Motto.

14 Historical Significance About 2,600 local historical icons cover the state. Georgia became the 13 th colony in USA. It also was the only one out of the 13 to receive a financial aid by a vote of Parliament and the British government took part.

15 Climate The climate is mostly high humidity and heavy precipitation. (1,000-2,000mm/yr) In midwinter the average temp. is 5c In midsummer the average temp is 22c The temps are influenced from the South and the North, so Georgia acts like a boundary from warm and colder air.
