Mardi Gras is celebrated on a Tuesday and is always 47 days before Easter Sunday. Mardi Gras means "Fat Tuesday", the last day of hearty eating before the penitential season of Lent. The official colors for Mardi Gras are purple, green, and gold. These colors where chosen in 1872 by the King of Carnival, Rex.

Ramadan is the ninth month in the Muslim calendar and, according to Islamic belief, the month during which Allah (God) delivered the Koran to the prophet Mohammed. During Ramadan, Muslims (followers of Islam) do not eat or drink during the day. This is called fasting.
