3 * You can get to the class website by typing the address http://www.rlccomputer.com into the address bar of Internet Explorer and then pressing the Enter key on your keyboard. The current day's classes are listed on front page. Click the Establish a Google Account entry if its there. http://www.rlccomputer.com * If its not there then click on Courses on the main page. Then select Smart Phones Curriculum and click on it's entry. * Find the entry for Establish a Google Account and click on it to get to this page. * Please remember that you can always ask the Computer Lab Tech to help you get to this page

4 * We will be offering a course in PowerPoint, in the mornings * We are offering a course in Smart Phones in the afternoons * We will be offering a course in Excel in the mornings * We will be offering a class in Typing in the afternoons

5 * What’s your name? * What’s happening in your life today? * (can you say it in forty words or less?) * What would you like to achieve as a result of this class? What do you want to do on your Smart Phone that you can’t do now ?

6 * We will be using Android Phones for Dummies by Dan Gookin as a class text book. There is a reference copy in your Computer Lab * A way of getting help is to go into Google and put in key words describing your problem and see what Google can find in the way of solutions to your problem which most probably other people have experienced before you.Google

7 * You can request a Certificate of Completion at the end of the course All you have to do is to turn in six satisfactory completed assignments for each class by the next class.Certificate of Completion

8 * Interchange contact information between desktop and phone * Send and receive e-mails * Add applications * Access stuff on your Gdrive * Google+ a social networking service like Facebook * Get free music on your smart phone

11 * Before setting up your account you may want to watch the movie called How To Set Up A Gmail Account How To Set Up A Gmail Account * Open up Internet Explorer by clicking on its icon in the task bar. * Type Gmail.com into the box on the top left of screen, press enterGmail.com * Click on” create an account” in top right corner of screen * Fill in data, leave out current e-mail address if you don't have one. * Verify by typing in the captchacaptcha * Click in the checkbox to show you agree to Googles policies * Note down your address and password in a place where you will find it easy to remember what they are. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT!!!!! * Skip all requests by typing next. * Eventually you will get acknowledgement that you have signed up to Gmail. * Close down Gmail by clicking on the red-box with the cross in the top right corner of the display.

12 * Pages 27-29 of Android Phones for Dummies covers this topic. * Turn on your phone by pressing the Power/Lock button until you feel it vibrate. * Wait for it to boot up. * Slide you finger across the screen when it stabilizes to open it * Slide your fingers around the screen until you see the Gmail icon. * Click it

13 * Check pages 30-31 of Android Phones for Dummies for reference. * Enter your Gmail account name and password * Wait a while it synchronizes * Congratulations, you have connected to your Gmail account. * We will be discussing how to use Gmail in a later lesson

14 * See page 33-34 of Android Phones for Dummies * Hold down the Power/Lock key until a display appears * You usually have various options. * Use the airplane mode when you are flying. * Click and hold the Power Off option. * The phone will turn off. * Remember to re-charge it!

15 * Reconnect with your partner * The person closest to the door shares for one minute about what happened in the class.
