19
Jesus told this parable: “There was a man who had two sons. The younger one said to his father, ‘Father, give me my share of the estate.’ So he divided his property between them.
21
Not long after that, the younger son got together all he had, set off for a distant land and there he wasted all his wealth in wild living.
23
After he had spent everything, there was a famine in that whole country, and he began to be in need. So he hired himself out to a man, who sent him out to feed pigs. He was so hungry that he would have eaten the pigs’ food. At last, he came to his senses.
25
He said, ‘How many of my father’s servants have food, and here I starve to death! I will go back to my father and say: Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son; make me like one of your servants.’
27
So he got up and went to his father. “But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him.
29
The father ran to his son.
30
He threw his arms around his son and kissed him.
31
The son said, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’
33
But the father said to his servants, ‘Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let’s have a feast and celebrate.
35
For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ So they began to celebrate. Meanwhile, the older son was in the field.
36
When he came near the house, he heard music and dancing. He called a servant and asked him what was going on. ‘Your brother has come back safe and sound,’ he replied, ‘and your father has killed the fattened calf.’
38
The older brother became angry. His father went out and begged him to come in. But he answered, ‘All these years I’ve been slaving for you and never disobeyed you. Yet you never gave me even a young goat so I could celebrate with my friends.
39
But when this son who has wasted your money, comes home, you kill the fattened calf!’ ‘My son,’ the father said, ‘you are always with me, and all I have is yours. But it is right that we celebrate, because this brother of yours was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’”

Bible Verse Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. John 14:27
