= Anglo=Saxon literature (Germanic influence) / sounds like Norse lang. now 5th - Anglo-Saxon invasion 6th - Christianity spread by monks from Rome, churches built, Latin words brought: priest, monk, candle, school – written in Latin, later liter. written in Old English 8th – 11th cent.: poetry and prose secular and religious lyric and epic genres: war poems, heroic epics
